Rockwall, Texas – March 29, 2017 – After last night’s storms in North Rockwall, cleanup activities have continued successfully throughout the day today. The debris has been removed from the public streets. Damage assessment continues at this point, and law enforcement will maintain a presence in the area throughout the evening to ensure residents’ safety.
The Building Inspections Department has completed the preliminary assessment and building evaluation process. There were 18 residences in the immediate affected area that sustained damage. Four residences were determined to be unsafe, five residences were determined to be safe with specified limitations, and nine received minor damage.
Multiple City departments responded in the early hours of Wednesday morning to assist in the aftermath, including the Rockwall Police Department, Fire Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Building Inspections Department, Engineering Department, Street Department, Water and Wastewater Department.
In addition there has been great cooperation from multiple agencies within the area, including the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office, Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management, Rockwall County EMS, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, as well as Republic Waste Management and utility companies: Oncor, Atmos, and Farmers Electric Cooperative.
As is typical for Rockwall, community support for the neighborhood and for first responders was exceptional. Also noticeable was the genuine support that neighbors provided for each other.
