It only took about half an hour for a Rockwall County jury to find James Earle Dodson, 55, guilty of DWI and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after his May 20 trial. Dodson was charged with hitting a carload of family members in a July 13, 2009 crash and seriously injuring one of the passengers, a 12-year-old boy.
In the punishment phase, prosecutors showed that Dodson had five prior DWI convictions in other counties. Jurors sentenced him to prison terms of 10 years on the DWI and 15 years on the assault.
“Citizens all over Texas are safer with Mr. Dodson behind bars,” said Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper.
