New items and more fruits and vegetables are on the menu in the Rockwall school district for both breakfast and lunch.
Fresh spinach has been added to all chef salads and side salads. Brown rice replaces white rice in most recipes, increasing the number of whole grains available for students to select. Vegetables show up in the new ‘Confetti Cheese Bread’ offered at all elementary schools, and a new side dish of green beans and carrots, steamed from frozen, has been added.
New entrees include beef and chicken sliders, rotisserie chicken and low-fat tamale pie and beef chalupas. Hamburger patties are 100 percent beef. Other items, like chicken fried steak and steak fingers, are new recipes with lower sodium.
