Rockwall County Commissioners approved an increase in the effective tax rate Tuesday morning. The increase brings the new effective tax rate to $0.3864 per $100 assessed value, up $0.0114 from $0.3750. For a $100,000 residence, the increase amounts to an additional $11.40 per year.
Rockwall County Treasurer Bill Sinclair pointed out that on average many of the properties on the county tax roll experienced a 1 to 3 percent decline in assessed value. For some home owners, this could mean no change or even a slight decrease in taxes despite the increase in the tax rate.
County Commissioners will formally adopt the 2010 tax rate at its next meeting, 9 a.m. Aug. 24 at the Rockwall County Historic Courthouse.
